Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Polish in Fondant and MUA Nail Varnish in Pistachio Ice Cream

Nails of the Day (NOTD) // Ice-Cream Pastels // BARRY M AND MUA!

Hey guys

I hope you’re all okay, and my UK readers are enjoying the sunshine we’re getting!  I’ve got a few longer posts in the making, but I’ve had a lot of medical appointments this week so unfortunately today’s post is a shorter one.

The sunny UK weather has inspired this nails of the day, in these gorgeous pastel ice-cream inspired colours!

I used my usual Nails Inc Kensington Caviar base coat.  I then used two coats of Barry M Fondant on all but my ring fingers.  On my ring fingers, I used two coats of MUA Pistachio Ice Cream.  I topped all my nails with a coat of Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat.  They’re a bit messy round the edges, as I was in a rush before a hospital appointment, sorry!!

I absolutely love these two pretty pastel shades – they are perfect for Spring!  Both polishes have a lovely, creamy consistency and are opaque in two coats.  From past experience, the MUA one doesn’t last too well before chipping, which is why I used that one on the ring fingers instead of the majority of nails.

Too much exposure on this photo – oops, sorry!  What do you think of my ice-cream themed nails?  Are you craving a mint choc chip or strawberry ice cream? 😀

You can find the Barry M polish here and the MUA one here (only £1!!).

Essie Leggy Legend and Essie Frock n Roll Fall 2015 Collection Nail Polishes

Nails of the Day (NOTD) // Essie Leggy Legend (Bronze) and Frock ‘n Roll (Black)

Hi guys!

It’s been a while since my last nails of the day post, hasn’t it?  I was doing them once a week up until recently!  I haven’t been too well and have been concentrating on hospital appointments etc, so my nails have gone a bit by the wayside (ie chipped or plain!)

Since I hadn’t worn any polish for a little bit, I decided to come back with a bang and choose two strong colours.  They might seem a strange choice for Spring, but here in the UK it’s still really cold and we’re even having the odd bit of snow, so my bright varnishes are on hold until it warms back up!

Bursting into Spring with Super-Bright Nails!

Hey guys

I don’t know about you, but the sunny weather in the UK last week really got me excited about spring and summer!  I love warm weather, and am always counting down to the end of winter (well, once Christmas is over anyway).

I decided to ‘shop my stash’ and see what I had that was pretty, bright and perfect for bringing my nails into spring!  I got these two nail polishes last year, at the same time.  I’ve only ever worn them separately, but looking at how pretty the colours are together in these photos is tempting me to use them together as part of one mani.  Maybe coral with a pink accent nail?

The gorgeous, bright, hot-pink is Nails Inc Brook Street.  I find colours like this so easy to wear!  It looks just as great on toenails as it does on the fingers. It’s a nice, smooth consistency that needs just two coats to look great.  They have updated it to the squared bottle since last year, and sadly it is now £14 instead of £10!

The bright, orangey-coral is Nails Inc Porchester Place.  I love this colour!  It’s almost a neon-coral in some lights.  I wear colours like this loads in the spring and summer, as they add such a lift to any outfit and the brightness makes me smile!  As with Brook Street, the consistency is smooth and two coats is sufficient.  This is still on sale in the same bottle style I have, for £10.

I tend to find that Nails Inc nail varnishes are a little disappointing in how long they last before chipping – as they are fairly expensive, you always expect them to last a bit longer.  Although they last 3-4 days, which is fairly average.  I really like using the Nails Inc Kensington Caviar Flawless Base Coat underneath, as it definitely does make them look nicer and last a little bit longer without chipping.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I do think Nails Inc polishes are a bit too expensive – especially now that the new ones are £14.  However they often come free with magazines, or in gift sets or beauty advent calendars etc, which is how I got most of mine.

What do you think of these colours?  Which nail polishes do you tend to wear in the spring and summer?  Let me know in the comments!  PS this post is in no way sponsored – thought I’d better say that, since I have mentioned Nails Inc a million times haha!

Avon Metallic Effects Jade Reflection

Nails of the Day // Avon Metallic Effects – Jade Reflection

Hi guys!

I haven’t done a nails of the day post for a few weeks.  I’ve been quite poorly most of the time, so my nails have been a bit chipped and crappy looking 😀

I used to buy things from Avon fairly often when I was working, as someone there was a rep.  It must have been at least a year now since I bought anything!  My mother in law kindly gave me this nail polish – it is part of Avon’s Metallic Effects range, in the shade Jade Reflection.  It looks like a straight silver colour in the bottle, but once it’s on the nails, the green really shines through!

It is a great formula, it applies quite thickly but really evenly.  I could probably have just about got away with one coat if I was in a rush, but this is two coats. I used my usual topcoat, Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat.  This nail polish lasted really well!  I thought it might chip quickly as it’s metallic, but it lasted a good 4 or 5 days before it needed removing, which is pretty good in my experience.

I’d love to try other colours in this range (especially Copper Dream, which is stunning!), but sadly they don’t even sell this anymore!  That’s the only downside with finding a product you like at Avon, as the stock changes so regularly.  If you like this though, it looks like you can still find it on Ebay.

What do you think of this nail polish?  Do you like the colour?  Are there any Avon products you would recommend?  Let me know in the comments!

Superhero Nails

SUPERHERO NAILS // MARVEL – HULK // GREEN AND PURPLE!

Hi guys!

If you saw my last nail post, you’ll see that I decided to do a Superhero Series, painting my nails to represent different Marvel superheroes.  After loving the film, my first one had to be Deadpool, which you can see here!

Today, it is…. HULK!  Sort of.  I don’t get out much as you probably know, so I had to go with the nail polishes I already had.  Now I know Hulk isn’t sparkly, but my nail representation of him is 😀

Marvel Hulk Nails

I started with the green glittery nail polish (Mina Sweet Color in 89) on all but the ring fingers – it was pretty opaque, but needed 2 coats to look good.  I then took the purple polish (Morgan Taylor Bright Side) on my ring fingers, and in a jagged pattern on the top part of the middle fingernails.

I then took the Essence The Gel black nail polish in Black is Back and a small, thin nail brush.  I drew around the jagged purple polish on the middle finger to try and look a bit like the jagged bubbles in comics.  I also drew a basic design in black on the next fingers along, to look a bit like Hulk’s six pack!

For a bit of a different look and texture, I took OPI’s Black Shatter and put it over the green glitter polish on each thumbnail.  If you don’t remember ‘shatter’ nail polish, you apply it over another varnish and it breaks up into a shattered pattern on the nail… the easiest possible nail art!

Finally I added a second coat of Bright Side to the ring fingers and whilst it was still tacky, I dipped the two nails into loose purple glitter.

The last step was to seal everything in with two coats of top coat – I used Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat.

If I’d been able to go shopping, I probably would have got a more suitable green polish, but I don’t think I did too badly with what I had!  I am in no way an expert at nail art and have super shaky hands, but I enjoy playing around with it and had fun doing this Hulk nail look.

What do you think of these nails?  Do you ever do any nail art or themed nails?  Let me know in the comments.

Stay tuned for the next superhero in the series – Captain America has been requested!

Primark Nail Polish and Essence On Air gold glitter nail polish!

Nails of the Day (NOTD) // Taupe and Gold // Primark & Essence On Air!

Hey guys

It’s been two weeks since my last nails of the day post, so I’m back with your next nail fix!  It’s not quite time for Spring bright colours yet, but I’m getting a little bit bored of the winter berries and dark tones now. So I went for something in between – toned down, but lighter.  I chose this combination of taupe and gold sparkles!

Primark Nail Polish and Essence On Air gold glitter nail polish

Primark Nail Polish and Essence On Air gold glitter nail polish!

Annoyingly, I can’t tell you what the Primark nail polish is called as it never came with a name on it.  I don’t know whether this is intentional as they don’t name them, or whether it should have had a label or something.  However!  It’s a lovely minky-taupe colour with really subtle, fine gold glitter running through it.

Essence On Air! Gold Glitter

Essence On Air! Gold Glitter

I chose Essence On Air! for the accent nail, as that is a really opaque, glitter-packed polish so it goes well with the fine glitter in the Primark varnish.  The Essence polish you can see here is just one coat on the accent nail – I love it as it’s so densely packed.  I hate glitter that’s really spaced out and you have to layer loads on to get it to show!

NOTD - Primark Nail Polish and Essence On Air gold glitter nail polish!

The Primark nail polish is pretty good quality for just £1, it lasts about 3 days before it starts to chip (this is with one coat of Revlon Diamond Top Coat over it).  The Essence polish is also great quality for less than £2!

What do you think of this combo?
